Peres To Visit
Soviet Union

Israeli

Vice Premier Shimon Peres
has accepted an invitation to
travel to the Soviet Union.
The offer was extended by
Genrikh Borovikh, president
of the Soviet Peace Com-
mittee and a member of the
Permanent Committee on
Foreign Relations of the
Supreme Soviet.
_ Borovikh led a Soviet
trade delegation that met
with Peres for an hour on
Thursday.
Peres, who is also Israel's
minister of finance, would be
the highest-ranking Israeli
official to travel to the Soviet
Union since 1967, when the
Soviets broke ties with the
Jewish state.

Council of the American
Jewish Congress has asked
the U.S. government to "play
a more energetic and active
role in fighting the prolifera-
tion of political violence with
the immediate objective to
strengthen our defenses
against the transfer of arms
to terrorist groups and

The resolution singled out
Iran and Syria as the main
sponsors of terrorist activity
and called upon the United
States "to take steps
reasonably calculated to in-
duce Teheran and Damascus
to terminate that sponsor-
