At a recent seminar at Hebrew University, Dr. Judith Elizur said that the denial of emigration rights and the persecution of Soviet Jewry had the necessary elements of drama and denial of human rights to attract the attention of the Western press. The story also fit the classical picture of the Jew as victim or underdog (the David figure) in the Western image; she said. But ,Israel shed its David image, beginning with the 1967 war, and now a "new ac- tor" has stepped into the role, the Palestinians, said Elizur.
