The watch that won't show
the passing of time.

Recently, Obey cut a deal
with AID to allow funding
for two of the three schools.
- But it is expected that the
program will be overhauled

Scratchproof titanium carbide links, interspersed
with 18 kt. gold, form the band of the new
Rado® Anatom. The anatomically-
designed case top and crystal are
scratchproof, too. The result: a watch
that won't show the passing of time.
But will, of course, measure each
second with the precision of
watersealed Swiss quartz
technology. Available for men
and women.

in the coming year, an
overhaul that will almost
certainly cut funds for a
number of projects in in
Israel.

Arab-Americans Lobby
For Arafat Visa

The battle over the long-
rumored visa for Yassir
Arafat to visit the United
Nations shifted to Congress
recently with a heavy lobby-

A a

ing effort by Arab-American
groups intended to show that
the PLO has lived up to the
original conditions of the

U.S.-PLO dialogue.
In a letter distributed to
every legislator, the Nation-
al Association of Arab
Americans featured excerpts
from a government report
concluding that
"mainstream PLO
statements have for the most
part been consistent
regardless of the media in
which they appear."
The Anti-Defamation
League of B'nai B'rith has
prepared a document, due to
be to Congress this week,
which offers a detailed
rebuttal of the report, which
was compiled by the Foreign
Broadcast Information Ser-
vice (FBIS).
In the end, the decision on
whether to admit the PLO
leader — a visit now
rumored for the middle of
November — is in the hands
of the adniinistration. But a
growing clamor from Capitol
Hill against a visa could
play a role in holding the
State Department to a more
conservative course.

AIDS Quilt Returns
To Washington, D.C.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt
came back to Washington for
a final time last weekend,
and included in the 10,848
panels were a number of
embroidered menorot and
Stars of David, as well as a
long list of Jewish-sounding
names.
Each panel in the massive
quilt represents one in-
dividual who has died of the
disease; many panels incor-
porate images and artifacts
from their lives, a graphic
and powerful way of giving
the numbing statistics a
human dimension.
According to David Green,
a Jewish AIDS activist who
has sought to awaken the
Jewish community to the
needs of People with AIDS
(PWAs), the Jewish com-
munity is beginning to pay
more attention to the issue
of AIDS. "We've been
pushing people harder, and

we have seen some move-
ment," he • said. "Jews are
basically caring people; we
just need to communicate
with them better and help
them understand that they
need to open up to the needs
of Jewish PWAs. The quilt is
a powerful way of doing
that."

UAHC Pushing
'Housing' Now

The Union of American
Hebrew Congregations'
Religious Action Center
played a key role in the
"Housing Now" rally, in-
cluding organizing the mar-
ch which brought some
100,000 activists together
here last week to protest the
"affordability crisis"
responsible for the growing
number of the homeless on
America's streets. D
