OCTOBER 13_1989 The Jewish Community Council, in conjunction with its activities as a member of the Detroit Committee for World Food Day, has developed "The 7 Percent Solution" to help the hungry. At 7 a.m. on Sunday at WDIV. - Channel 4, Allen Zemmol, chairman of the Domestic Concerns Commit- tee, will discuss World Food Day. The Detroit Committee for World Food Day is an inter- faith coalition working to in- crease public awareness of the hunger issue. Now preparing for its fourth year, the campaign asks area restaurants to donate a por- tion of their day's proceeds from Thursday, to the Com- mittee for World Food Day for distribution to emergency food providers in Michigan. Recruitment of restaurants by a number of volunteers in the Jewish and general com- munities is coordinated by the Jewish Community Coun- cil, which also follows up with restaurants, collects proceeds and turns the funds over to the Committee. Social Club Annual Dinner The Colony Park and Laurel Woods Apartments Social Club will have its an- nual installation dinner at Southfield Charley's 7 p.m. Oct. 21 with dancing and entertainment by Frankie Paul. The new slate of officers for this year are: president, Lillian Dean; vice-presidents, Sohie Caplan, Faye Harrison, Theda Levy and Dorothy Niskar; secretary, Ann Greenbaum; treasurer, Betty Taylor; and co-treasurer Bess Warniek. Israeli Artist Presents Seminar The Greater Detroit Chapter of Hadassah and the Midrasha will present Israeli poet, artist and historian Suzie Russek-Osherov, 10 a.m. Oct. 23. Born in Poland after World War II, Osherov and her fami- ly emigratedto Israel in 1950. She studied art at Bezalel Art Academy and history at Tel Aviv University. Her poems and short stories have ap- peared in cultural and literary magazines in Israel. Her paintings have been shown in Israel and abroad, including her latest show as guest artist in Stuttgard and Ludwigsburg, Germany. Osherov's seminar will focus on a spiritual journey from Poland to Israel to Europe through lecture, pain- tings, and poems. There is a charge. Babysit- ting is available.
