Yeshiva Beth Yehudah and Our Supporters Celebrate 75 Years of a Detroit Tradition W e've Always Been There .. . Yeshiva Beth Yehudah is a traditional Jewish day school with two campuses in the metro-Detroit area— the Joseph Tanenbaum School for Boys in Southfield and the Sally Allan Alexander School for Girls in Beverly Hills. The school's curriculum comprises a rich blend of religious and secular, Hebrew and English, traditional and progressive. Yeshiva Beth Yehudah is a Jewish school open to all children, from kindergarten through 12th grade. Yeshiva Beth Yehudah has a seventy-five year tradition of excellence. The school was founded in 1914. At that time, about 300 children attended afternoon and Sunday classes. children to their alma mater. Others come back to the school as teachers; in fact, almost 1/3 of our faculty is made up Yeshiva Beth Yehudah alumni. All this, of course, is in addition to their continuing financial patronage. The yeshiva has also enjoyed a wide spectrum of community support. From the Reform to the Orthodox, our fellow Jews have helped us survive many difficult and lean times. Whether natives or immigrants, they realize that Jewish identity enhances American identity, and that the Jewish quest for knowledge is an impetus to the overall American dream. By 1944, Yeshiva Beth Yehudah's expanding student body boasted 100 all-day students in addition to the 340 enrolled in the afternoon and Sunday programs. The school now has an annual enrollment of 637 children. C ommitment to Our Future Throughout its distinguished history, Yeshiva Beth Yehudah has been an anchor for the Detroit-area Jewish community. Stability and continuity have made the school a living testament to tradition. Yeshiva Beth Yehudah accepts all Jewish children, regardless of their ability to pay tuition. In fact, about 2/3 of our students receive some degree of tuition assistance. One of the yeshiva's proudest achievements is the outstanding academic performance of its students. The proportion of students who receive merit awards, scholarships, and other honors is higher than any public or parochial school in the area. Even more unusual is the percentage of our graduates who go on to further education, from rabbinical schools to public universities--nearly 100%. And, of course, many of our alumni have become renowned community leaders. A Jewish Tradition . . . A Detroit Tradition . . . A Family Tradition Without Torah, there can be no Judaism. Yeshiva Beth Yehudah provides the finest traditional Torah education in the area. The school has become as much a part of Detroit as any institution.
