Fred M. Butzel
Memorial Award
for Community Service

Tillie Brandwine

No honor is more telling of the special quality of our community
volunteers than is the prestigious Butzel Award.

We Walk as One-
' for Israel and Soviet Jewry

Named for a man whose career of voluntarism spanned several de-
cades, the Jewish Welfare Federation's highest award for service goes
to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary communal leader-
ship and devotion to the Jewish People.

Recipient of the 38th annual Butzel Award is Tillie Brandwine, a form-
er president and Campaign chairman of the Federation Women's
Division.

A special sensitivity to the concerns of the elderly and an understand-
ing of the importance of Jewish education have led her to contribute
countless hours and resources to Jewish Federation Apartments, Jewish
Family Service, Hillel Day School and other agencies and organizations.

For her work on behalf of Israel and world Jewry, she has been honor-
ed by the Jewish National Fund and Israel Bonds and serves on the
boards of the Joint Distribution Committee and the United Jewish
Appeal women's division.

Going beyond the Jewish community, Tillie Brandwine has lent her
interest and counsel to Detroit's United Community Services, on
whose board she serves.
