N.M. Post Office
Issues Apology
New York (JTA) — Post-
master General Anthony
Frank has apologized to the
Jewish community in Albu-
querque, N.M., for the post of
promotion of Christian
articles in a new post office
outlet.
"I want to apologize to you
and the members of the
Jewish community in Albu-
querque for any offense this
incident has caused," the
postmaster general wrote in
an Aug. 18 letter to Norman
Redlich, chairman of the
American Jewish Congress's
commission on law and social
action.
The letter was a response to
a complaint issued by the
AJCongress on behalf of a
number of Jewish residents of
Albuquerque who were of-
fended by a post office flier
they received promoting the
card and gift store Reasons
and Seasons as a new post of-
fice outlet.
JDC Ships Gifts
To Soviet Shuls
New York (JTA) — This
Rosh Hashanah, many Soviet
Jews will be celebrating the
High Holy Days in style,
courtesy of the American
Jewish Joint Distribution
Committee, which recently
sent holiday gifts — such as
honey, lulavim and etrogim —
to all of the 114 existing
synagogues in the Soviet
Union
Although JDC has been
supplying Jewish com-
munities throughout the
world with food and supplies
for the High Holy Days for
many years, this will be the
first time that the organiza-
tion is able to reach Soviet
congregations directly.
Brazil Closes
Fair Bookstand
New York (JTA) — A book
stand selling Holocaust revi-
sionist literature at the
Fourth Biennial Interna-
tional Book Fair in Rio de
Janeiro has been closed by
the state's governor.
The stand was operated by
Revisao Editora, a Brazilian
publishing company which
publishes several Holocaust
revisionist and anti-Semitic
texts, including Jewish or
German Holocaust?, The Gas
is Finished: Guilty or Inno-
cent, The International Jew
and the Katyn Massacre and
a Portuguese version of the
infamous Protocols of the
Elders of Zion.
