Jewish calendar is an
essential part of every
Jewish home and pro-
vides a basic reference for
every member of the family.
This year there are a variety
of desk, wall, and children's
calendars in many designs
and styles.
All Jewish calendars
recognize important dates for ,
Jewish as well as civic
holidays, and list times for
candlelighting. But besides
# being informational, calen-
dars have become decorative,
with beautiful art reproduc-
tions from collections all over
the world. The following is
just a sampling of the many
Jewish calendars now
available.
Biblical Images from the
Jewish Museum from Pome-
granate Publishers includes
photographs of drawings and
artifacts from New York's '
Jewish Museum collection.
Works by Rembrandt and
Chagall are featured.

by Hugh Lauter Levin
Associates. The illustrations
here are based on the collec-
tion of the Hebrew Union Col- '
lege Skirball Museum and in-
clude an 1867 punched paper
embroidery of the Akedah, a
1602 woodcut on the same
subject, along with a magnifi-
cent silver etrog container
from 19th century Germany.
Especially striking is an il-
luminated 19th century
megilla scroll with its silver ,
case, from Central Europe.
Hebrew calligraphy is
celebrated in this calendar
with a colorful 18th century
Venetian ketubah. Also, this
calendar highlights dates of
Jewish holidays through the
year 1995.
