of the hall that I was disap-
pointed that he did not ad-
dress the Vatican's failure to
remove the nuns from
Auschwitz. Fr. Brunett look-
ed right through me.
When I wrote Fr. Brunett
repeating my comments the
response from this "leader"
in the ecumenical movement
startled me. He replied that
"regarding the question of
the nuns at Auschwitz, I
gather that you have not
closely followed the issues in-
volved nor the effort to bring
about reconciliation." He
then wrote that the real pro-1
blem "we have been en-
countering in recent years (is
misleading articles) from the
Jewish press."
To top this all off, Fr.
Brunett gave me what
perhaps is the best indication
of his underlying feelings,
writing that "Personally
speaking, I came to the
memorial service at a great
sacrifice of my time and ef-
fort." . . . this from a man who
is on the Catholic Church's
payroll at least in part to at-
tend to interreligious affairs!

As far as I am concerned,
this is not the year for Jews
to hand out awards to
Catholic officials for
achievements in human
relations.

Carl Levin, Israel
And 'Single Issue'

As one who at one time was
critical of the "Single Issue"
epithet hurled at those who
regard the survival of Israel
as paramount, I wish to ex-
press full support for Senator
Carl Levin.
He is without doubt a most
competent, honest, in-
dustrious, committed and
respected member of the
Senate. Not least, we are cer-
tain the welfare of Israel is on
his "high priority" list,
(preferable to "single issue").
Though many of us do not
buy all of his liberal agenda,
the choice is unmistakable:
Re-elect Senator Carl Levin.
