Besides Matt, corporate chef Sal Parco is there train- ing and teaching . . . plus dai- ly looksees by managing part- ners, Keith Schofield and Greg Prentice. Plaza managers are Rick Therrien, former kitchen manager at West Bloomfield's Deli Unique and front-of-the- house manager at the Oak Park site . . . and Todd Sauve, former cook and night chef at Sebastian's prior to becoming kitchen manager at the West Bloomfield Deli Unique. Plaza's new decor will be fascinating . . . like making both sides the same modern look . . . which should have been done in the first place . . . among a host of other changes . . . But the big thing is new equipment . . . and we're not talking small change. The changeover will, without doubt, be for the better. BUDDY'S BAR-B-Q on north side of West Bloomfield Plaza, Orchard Lake Road south of Maple, is celebrating its 10th anniversary at this locale . . . owned by Arlyn Meyerson, whose hard work and perserverance far and away overshadow his speech and hearing handicaps. IF ERNEST DRUCKER $ 8 95 Special Appetizer Parties Available Bubble & Squeak 355'2050 EMBASSY ittr SUITES HOTEL 28100 Franklin Road Southfield didn't wear the sharpest shirt there, who would? . . . The Ex- ecutive Custom Shirtmakers bossman — almost look-alike of the late David Niven — was one of a huge throng who flocked to Nicky's for its sixth anniversary. People kept coming and go- ing all evening, and the beam of success on faces of Nick Sorise and John Reaser shone brightly as they strutted pro- udly in their well-groomed tuxes. Nick and John are the first ones to make something out of the 'MP of the Troy spot .. . following Bonaventure, Kogy's and Sidney's. No place to sit down, so ex- Palombo's boss, now a Ginopolis' stalwart, brought drinks for all the gals at a - booth . . . and they asked him to join them . . . Ernie got his seat . . . So wonderful to see Michelle Mandell . . . Sammy Mandell's daughter brought back many wonderful Ted Lipschitz nitery memories of her dad . . . Food galore, ice carving and more food. They don't come much nicer than Nick and John. STAR DELI'S 20th an- niversary is now going on at the local true carry-out "in- stitution" that probably can boast one of the highest sales volumes around. A true carry-out is one that has no seats . . . not even island tables for customers to stand and eat inside the premises. Star is highly noted for its homemade items . . . with everything made on the premises ... Ann Bergman comes in three times a week to make kugels, blintzes, soups, etc. Its countermen are deli dogs from years back . . . with oodles of experience . . . Iry Willis has been with Star 14 years . . . Bob Winkle seven years and Pete Simelo 14 years . . . It's primarily a family operation, though, with Sid Neuman and son Harry, while Sid's wife Rose comes in to take cash. No canned, carton-bought or bulk-purchased potato salad or cole slaw and other edibles . . . everything at Star is homemade. Being a true carry-out like Star Deli is a big asset .. . Low overhead allows pro- prietor room to pass on sav- ings . . . and homemade goodness doubles the advantage. COME THIS November, Michigan Inn on J.L. Hudson Drive will become Sheraton Southfield. The former Benchmark fine dining restaurant there is now call- ed Season's . . . After 22 years, Al Winkler of Pickle Barrel, Evergreen and 12 Mile, made the big move and shaved off his mustache . . . Dimitri's of Southfield rice pudding is made without egg yolks and comes with or without raisins. Dimitri's Sunday brunch, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sunday dinners began again last week . . . Another Baine's Deli operation will open in Tel-12 Mall's Restaurants On Main Street . . . Berkshire Hotel in Southfield will add a dining room . . . Cheers musical group is at Excalibur through this month. OPENING OF Honey Tree at Hunter Square, Orchard Lake Road south of 14, is ex- pected this year . . . Will not be a carry-out or mall table sitdown as in former Tally Hall . . . Tom Goulas' Honey Tree of West Bloomfield will seat 110 . . . He recently open- ed another Honey Tree with 100 seats in Shelby Corners, Hall Road and Schoenher in Utica . . . Other Honey Trees are at Macomb Mall in Rose- ville, Liberty Square in Ann Arbor, and Athenian at Eastland.
