are not truely dual but
dangerously divided and that
our Americanism is therefore
suspect, which can hardly
benefit the Levin candidacy.
Senator Levin will not win
or lose only based upon his ir-
reversable support for Israel,
but, as well, based upon his
stands on other momentous
issues, national and
world-relevant.
If The Jewish News cannot
see its way clear to encourag-
ing Jews to take those issues,
together with Israel, into con-
sideration, perhaps the
editors will, at least, look
more carefully before they
leap, once more, into the
single-issue political
cauldron.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1989

There is a legitimate
medical use for drugs when
prescribed by a doctor and
dispensed by a pharmacist.
Beyond this, they are a cancer
imposed on mankind by those
with no morals, ethics, or feel-
ings other than the need for
millions of tax-free dollars.
There are three basic
elements involved in drug
trafficking. First: the growing
of raw materials and
manufacture of drugs, then
sending the finished product
to the United States and
other countries. Second: the
distribution and sales of in
the United States and other
countries. And third: the
buyers and users of drugs .. .
The sale and distribution of
drugs to our children and
young people for economic
gain is no less than a form of
murder than putting a gun to
their heads and pulling the
trigger. Our prisons are so full
that these felons are let out of
prison afer a short period of
time to repeat their crimes
against humanity . . . The
system has to be changed
similar to that used in
Singapore or in Iran where
there is little or no drug pro-
blem. We should enact a
federal or state law making
the death sentence man-
datory when smugglers are
caught bringing narcotics in-
to our country and when
pushers are caught
distributing or selling quan-
titis of drugs .. .
Question: "Are we suffi-
ciently frightened and fed up
with the terror and death in-
flicted on our citizens by these
unscrupulous people?" "Are
we willing to take some risk
in hopes of ending this cancer
that condinues to grow un-
checked?"
One answer is to eliminate

the use of and the market for
illegal drugs. This won't be
accomplished by wishful
thinking, by printed matter,
by speeches, or by TV
specials, all of which have
been tried without success.
Peer pressure is too strong.
Why not take advantage of
the power of the subconcious
mind which is far more
powerful than that of the con-
scious mind?
I realize that turning loose
the technique of subliminal
messages holds a danger if
imporperly used. However,
the thought occurs to me that
this would be a potent
weapon to help cure our coun-
try's ills and that perhaps the
federal government could con-
trol it's use . . . I believe, pro-
perly handled, much could be
gained without making us a
nation of zombies. In any
event, which is the lesser of
two evils?

Giving A Mitzvah
For Human Life

As a Jew, and as a person
with a serious bleeding
disorder who uses clotting fac-
tor derived from human
blood, I hereby appeal to you,
my fellow Jews, to please par-
ticipate in the mitzvah of
donating a pint of your blood.
At this writing we, as a
community, are undergoing a
critical shortage of blood .. .
Without adequate blood
stores available, persons like
myself and others who need
blood for whatever reasons
are put at high risk for
serious medical
complications.
In this season of simcha and
renewal, I urge you to please
contact your local Red Cross
Donor Center, make an ap-
pointment and give the most
precious gift there is.

Rabbi Describes
Funeral incident

As the rabbi who officiated
at the funeral service con-
ducted for Rose Golub on
March 10, 1988, I would like
to correct some inaccuracies
reported The Jewish News on
Aug. 18.
It is true that one end of the
casket did fall to the ground
because the handle_ had
become detached, but there
was absolutely no "spewing of
its contents" as charged in
the law suit. No part of the
decedent's body was exposed
either during or after the ac-
cident occurred.
