Fenton, Friedman Win
Tennis Championships

STAFF REPORT

Yes, the doctor is in — and
how!
Roger Fenton, an osteo-
pathic physician, finally en-
tered the winner's circle in
men's singles tennis compe-
tition at Tam O'Shanter
Country Club when he de-
feated Marty Levy on Labor
Day to win his first-ever in-
traclub championship.
In addition, Fenton added
both the men's and mixed
doubles titles- to his collec-
tion, thus scoring the first
sweep at Tam since Bill
Serman did it in 1984.
At Knollwood Country
Club, Kenny Friedman won
the men's singles crown
while the Garons — Larry
and Lori — won their respec-
tive men's and women's
doubles titles and paired up
to win the mixed doubles
championship.
Fenton, who had been the
singles runner-up at Tam
the past eight years, de-
feated Levy in straight sets.
Fenton got a break when
Dan Werner, who had won
the title the last two years,
chose the Labor Day week-
end for his honeymoon.
Fenton teamed with Ser-
man to win their eighth con-
secutive doubles title with a
straight-sets victory over
Charlie Kaye and Jerry
Aronoff. Kaye and Aronoff
have been runners-up seven
of those eight years.
Fenton and Lori Wayne
successfully defended their
mixed doubles title by de-
feating David. Bloom and
Lorie Horowitz in straight
sets.
In the men's seniors
doubles at Tam, Serman and
Nate Saginaw defeated
Morry Starkman and George
Ingber in straight sets while
