The restaurant was even air-conditioned. "Latin music was the craze and the Book Casino's Copacabana Review was pleasing patrons with the Samba Sirens, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian songs and folk dances. A 1940s Theatregoer from the Shubert Lafayette Theatre advertised three Brass Rails at Twenty West Adams, Michigan at Griswold and 6545 Woodward. They boasted the longest bars - in Michigan with quality food, the finest liquors and entertainment. "The Penobscot Club at the Fort Street entrance of the Penobsot Building downtown was billed as the gay, new restaurant in the city with superb food and music by Don King. Robert Lace was the host. "After the theatre, the play bill ad said, the stage is Sam- my Sofferin's Wonder Bar, on Washington Blvd., at State, famous coast-to-coast. "I wonder what happened to those good old seafood places where you could stuff yourself with shore dinners from the sea plus fried chicken and corn-on-the-cob? "Many of us have fond memories of Hedge's Wigwam on Woodward, the Gold Cup Room in the Whittier Hotel, Club Royale where you could gamble, the elegant Latin Quarter and so many more. And there still aren't many ribberies that can beat the spare ribs at the old Checker Barbeque in Detroit. "Who would have believed the Scotch and Sirloin would close its doors? Everything from the shrimp Louis to the sirloin steak to the Dover sole was delicious.
