The bus will depart from Congrega- Anaruth Bernard and Sidney Feldman Seminary Will Hold Annual Education Day The Jewish Theological Seminary of America will host its annual education day, "Sunday at the Seminary in Detroit," 10 a.m. Nov. 5 at Hillel Day School. Three professors from the Seminary will be the guest speakers. Dr. Shaye Cohen will discuss "Intermarriage, Conversion and Matrilineal Descent: A History. of the Laws of Personal Status"; Dr. Neil Gillman will speak on "Does God Really Care What Food I Eat? Modern Ap- proaches to Jewish Ritual"; and Dr. Judith Hauptman will discuss "Resolving the Conflict Between Feminism and Judaism!' The event is co-chaired by Anaruth Bernard and Sidney Feldman. Bernard has served on Con- gregation Beth Shalom board of directors and has co-chaired its cultural commission. She is past president of Hillel Day School and is a former board member of United Hebrew Schools. Feldman has served on the board of trustees, the adult study commission, the ritual committee and was men's club vice-president at Adat Shalom Synagogue. Detroit AJCommittee Chooses New Director Sharona Shapiro has been named area director for the Detroit Chapter of the American Jewish Committee. Shapiro is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and holds degrees in education and Judaic studies. Her educational background also includes course work at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and Hebrew Union College. Shapiro will be relocating to Detroit from Dallas, with her husband, attorney David Lerner, and their two chil- dren. In Dallas, she held the position of assistant area director of the Dallas AJC Chapter. Shapiro succeeds Sherwood Sandweiss, who retired this year after serving 20 years with AJC. Soviet Emigres Celebrate Brit Thirteen Soviet Jewish boys and one adult this week celebrated their recent brit milah (circumcision) at the Oak Park Lubavitch Center. Ethiopian Jews Topic Of Exhibit An exhibit of photographs taken by Marriam Cramer Ring of San Francisco, which records the lives in Jewish villages in Ethiopia, will be on display at the Maple/ Drake Jewish Community Center through Sept. 24.
