noted, it was not claimed by
any Palestinian organization
and may well have been car-
ried out under contract to
Iran in retaliation for the
downing of the Iranian air
bus.
The primary focus of all
Palestinian groups this year
seems to be related to the
intifada.
According to Anat Kurz, ac-
ting director of the Project on
Low Intensity Warfare and
primary contributor to the
pamphlet, there was a 15 per-
cent rise in overall interna-
tional terrorist activity dur-
ing 1988 over the previous
year, with 433 incidents being
perpetrated by 53 active
organizations as opposed to
377 in 1987. A total of 626
people were killed by terrorist
attacks in 1988, including
269 in the Pan Am explosion.
The favored terrorist tactics
continued to be bombings and
arson, accounting for 49.5
percent of the incidents. Arm-
ed assaults, including
murder, accounted for 28.2,
percent.
The Palestinian terrorist
group responsible for the
most attacks in 1988 was Abu.
Nidal's Fatah Revolutionary
Command, with 18.

Greenwald Goes
To Poland

Auschwitz, Poland (JTA) ---
Gerald Greenwald of Detroit,
vice chairman of Chrysler
Corporation, was a member of
a high-level delegation which
visited Poland last month and
offered its services to help
resolve the dispute over the
Carmelite convent at the
former Auschwitz death
camp.
Greenwald and other
members of the United States
Holocaust Memorial Council
were joined by Jeane
Kirkpatrick, former U.N. en-
voy, and current and former
U.S. senators in the
delegation.
During the visit with Polish
dignitaries, Miles Lerman,
chairman of the council's in-
ternational relations commit-
tee, received a medal for his
efforts to establish a
cooperative relationship be-
tween American and Polish
institutions of World War II
remembrance.
The main purpose of the
council's visit was to receive
artifacts from the Warsaw
Ghetto and from the
Auschwitz and Majdanek
camps for the Holocaust
Museum under construction
in Washington.
