_4\ Unprecedented are the conse- quences of war and war crimes which the whole Polish nation have had to bear?' But, added von Weizsacker, "we Germans too have deep scars from the war. We saw in- justice and suffering recoil on our own people in whose - name those crimes had been committed . . . " In Time magazine, Edda • Mussolini Ciani, the 78-year- old daughter of Benito Mussolini, made a curious rerevisionist observation about Hitler. The Furher, said Ciani, "was very polite and had a soft spot for me. I main- tain it was not the Fuhrer who wanted things to happen the way they did." Rating 'Days Of Rage' `Days of Rage', the pro- Palestinian film aired last week by the Public Broad- casting System, drew more controversy than audience. The first two hours of the two-and-a-half hour show, "Intifada: The Palestinians and Israel," that included `Days of Rage', earned only a 2.6 Nielson rating. This, the equivalent of five percent of the potential television au- dience, compared to a 2.5 rating that PBS usually receives in prime time. Viewership of "Intifada" declined after the first two hours. The full show ran from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. In the wake of the broadcast of Days of Rage, PBS an- nounced that its director of news programming and public affairs programming, Gail Christian, had resigned two weeks ago. She will leave PBS at the end of this month to'return to independent pro- ducing. Ms. Christian had acquired Days of Rage for PBS and was responsible for investigating its financing. An article in the New Republic asserted that the film had been partly financed by Arab interests. Ms. Christian told the New York Times, "I did not resign because of 'Days of Rage. But I am a little concerned about accusations that PBS was not vigorous enough in looking into the funding and should not have put it on the air. "You burn out because this is a no-win situation," she said. "You get silence when things go well and outrage when there are questions." 90 o R 4 5, Sponsored by the Agency for Jewish Education And J. E. F. F.
