STELLA PERLMAN, 75,
formerly of Detroit of Boca
Raton, Fla., died Sept. 4. She
leaves her husband, Dr.
Isadore Perlman; children,
Phyllis and Laren Opper of
West Bloomfield; and two
grandchildren. Interment in
New York.
JACK ZUMBERG, 84, of
North Lauderdale, Fla., died
Sept. 5. He is survived by his
wife, Road; children, Donald
of Hollywood, Fla. and Allan
and Eileen of Southfield; sibl-
ings,Lillian Jacobs of New
Brunswick, N.J., Mary and
Nate Trager of Farmington
Hills, Dora and Ben Stern of
Sunrise, Fla., Bessie and
Lewis Zumberg of Pembroke
Pines, Fla.; and two grand-
children. Interment in
Florida.
Bernard J. Firestone
Bernard J. Firestone, a
Detroit labor leader, died
Sept. 6. He was 53.
Mr. Firestone was an of-
ficial of the clothing workers
union and vice president of
the Metro Detroit AFL-CIO.
For years, he was one of the
AFL-CIO's staunchest
activists.
He was secretary-treasurer
of the Chicago and central
states joint board of the
clothing workers union,
which represents workers at
tailor shops, laundries, dry
cleaners and clothing stores
in Michigan.
He was also an officer of the
union's eight-state Midwest
region, which has about
15,000 members — 700 in
Detroit. Also a civic leader,
Mr. Firestone was a member
of the planning committee of
the Michigan Coaltion for
Human Rights.
Mr. Firestone is survived by
his wife, Charlene; children,
Nita, Elissa and Judy; his
mother, Frieda Rosenshine;
and a sister, Dorothy
Abramson.
Helen L. Linden
Helen L. Linden, former
owner of Linden's fashion
center in Owosso, Mich., died
Sept. 8.
A resident of Owosso, Mrs.
Linden was a lifelong
member of Temple Israel in
West Bloomfield and Temple
Beth El in Flint.
She also was a member of
ORT and Hadassah.
Mrs. Linden leaves her hus-
band, Judge Joseph Linden;
children, Bryna and Jeffrey
Leib of West Bloomfield,
Susan and Richard Lezell of
West Bloomfield, Marcia and
Ira Auslander of Farmington
Hills and Mindy and Jack
Cherney of West Bloomfield;
three sisters and brothers-in-
law, Lina and Irving Small of
Southfield, Bernice and Dr.
Morris Arnkoff of Franklin
and Sylvia Lee of Hollywood,
Fla.; and nine grandchildren.
Sophia B. Roggin
Sophia B. Roggin, who own-
ed and operated Roggin Drug
Co. with her late husband,
Albert, for many years, died
Sept. 8. She was 78.
Born in Poland, Mrs. Rog-
gin came to Detroit in 1920 as
an infant. She retired to
Florida in 1985.
She was a member of the
Tikvah chapter of B'nai
B'rith, ORT and Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek. She also
was a past president of the
ladies auxiliary of Aescala-
pian Pharmaceutical Associa-
tion and a life member of
Hadassah.

children, Dr. Gary of
Bethesda, Md. and Gail and
Robert Wilensky of
Washington, D.C.; siblings,
Harry and Rose Blitz; and
five grandchildren.
Dr. Chester Winston
Dr. Chester Winston,
retired Oak Park High School
administrator, died Sept. 9.
He was 66.
Dr. Winston retired in 1983
after a long teaching career.
Before he entered administra-
tion, he worked in Livonia
and Oak Park schools as a
math and science teacher. His
career also included being
assistant principal at Clinton
Middle School in Oak Park.
A 1941 graduate of Central
High School, Dr. Winston
went on to earn his
undergraduate, graduate and
doctorate degrees from
Michigan State University.
He also served in the U.S.
Army.
A resident of Farmington
Hills, Dr. Winston also was a
member of the Probus Club,
the Gamma Kappa Chi
fraternity and a volunteer at
the Cranbrook Scientific
Institute.
He is survived by his wife,
Marjorie; children, Craig and
Eric; a sister and brother-in-
law, Sharon and Stewart
Allen; and two grandchildren.
During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will observe the yahrzeits of the following departed friends, with
the traditional memorial prayers, recitation of kaddish and studying of mishnayos.
