Beaumont Hospital's paren-
ting program is designed to
help first-time parents adjust
by providing them with infor-
mation on parenting issues
and baby care. An experienc-
ed parent volunteer offers
new families a non-
judgmental listening ear.
Parenting volunteers com-
plete 24 hours of training
before being paired with a
family. Volunteers begin
working with the family
when the mother and baby
are still in the hospital and
they continue to keep in con-
tact over the phone and with
visits.
Training for parenting pro-
gram volunteers begins
Sept. 27 and runs for eight
consecutive Wednesdays from
7-10 p.m. For information,
call the hopsital, 551-1455,
between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.,
weekdays. Registration dead-
line for the training is
Sept. 20.

ferent health screenings will
be provided for a fee.
