EYES
"It's really very simple"
"It may seem very complicated," says
Seski, "but actually it's very simple.
There are three basic shapes: the cir-
cle, the diamond, and the square.
"The circle gives you the Ivy League
look. It's very preppy looking." Leading
the pack in style is the new Oliver
Peoples line. "Oliver Peoples is the hot-
test thing in eyewear," says Seski.
The second basic shape is the dia-
mond. The diamond is the basis for
the men's Pilot style," says Seski. "Turn
it sideways and what do you get? The
lady's cat's-eye or harlequin shape. Add
rhinestones to the frame and you get
a very stylish look."
Today, eyeglasses are part of
a fashionable wardrobe.

And then there is the square. "The
square is a trendier kind of look," says
Seski.
"The straight-across-the-top look is
catching on," says Goodrich. "Flat tops
are especially popular for sunglasses."
And then there is the frame material
itself. Popular choices run the gamut
from heavy metals to thick plastics. The
other extreme — nearly invisible, wire-
thin frames — is also popular.
"We're dealing with a different kind
of plastics today," says Seski. "The new
plastics can have an almost unlimited
range of textures and colors."
Also, rather than making the entire
frame out of a single material, different
parts can be made out of different
metals, says Seski. For example, the
hinge may be made out of silver, while
the temple may be made out of a more
pliable material like copper. The metals
can also be plated with a mixture of dif-
ferent textures, including white and
yellow gold.
The combinations are almost
endless, and each design creates its
own effect. Flip-up sunglasses create a
sporty look, mirrored lenses create a
sense of mystery, and "it's actually sexy
far a woman today to wear an Ivy
League, Linda Carter-type thing," says
Seski.
As true facial jewelry, glasses have
come into their own. "It's an instant at-
titude," says Seski. "You can become
anyone you want to, just by putting on
a pair of glasses."
