crystals, smoky quartz and topaz
amethysts.
Frames were made of wood, tortoise
shell or bone, or crudely fashioned from
silver or gold wire.
Some of today's reading glasses are
still made with gold wire, but the styl-
ing is sleek, modern, and the wire is apt
to be gold plated for extra strength.
The explosion of technology has
made possible many of the newest
reading glass designs, including frames
of carbon fiber graphite for superior
lightness and durability.
Further, there is a color explosion go-
ing on in reading glasses. Consider
some of the new colors in reading
glasses from Marchon's spring '89 col-
lection: "Burgundy Glitter," "Pearly
Pink" and "Ebony Blue." Tried-and-true
shades like tortoise and crystal have
been designed in new sleek styles that
are keyed to fast-paced lifestyles.
Finally, there's the issue of "attitude."
Whereas reading glasses used to be
considered fuddy-duddy, they are now
being perceived as a real alternative to
full bifocal glasses.
Reading glasses are literally half the
size; they are lightweight, handy and fit
easily into pocket or purse for the
modern man or woman "on the go."
One of Marchon's most popular styles
is a folding pair of reading glasses that
takes up as little space as a set of house
keys!
What's next? The experts at Marchon
are developing reading glasses that can
be bent or twisted, then snap back to
their original shape. Described as
"super-resilient," these new glasses are
just one example of the expanding
number of choices that will be available
to the growing numbers of people buy-
ing reading glasses.

Fur Care

Don't abuse your fur with un-
necessary friction. Shoulder bags are
out. Exercise caution when climbing in
and out of cars. And be careful with
certain upholstery fabrics which rub the
fur and can break off guard hairs.
Do give your fur breathing space.
Covers and bags suffocate fur. Without
circulating air, furs dry; the tips become
crushed and eventually break off.
Don't pin anything on your fur and
that includes orchids, buttons or
jewelry.
Do hang your fur on a padded
hanger when it's wet from the rain or
a snowstorm. Make sure the room is
airy and then just shake the fur when
it's dry. Never dry fur on a radiator.
