Features Family Concert

The Jewish Experiences for
Families and the L'Chayim
section of the Jewish News
will sponsor "Apples and
Honey and Lots, Lots More,"
which includes a special fami-
ly concert with Barry Louis
Polisar, 2-4 p.m. Sept. 17 at
the Jewish Community
Center's Maple/Drake
Building.
Polisar has been called one
of the most popular children's
vocalists in the country by
The Washington Post and is a
pioneer in independent music
for children.
He has-written for children
since 1974 and has nearly
250,000 tapes, records and
books in print. Featured in
Newsweek, People Magazine
and School Library Journal,
Polisar has recorded for Caed-
mon Records and has written
songs for "Seasame Street"
and The Weekly Reader.
His achievements include:
Parents' Choice Award-
Winner, Juno Award for Best
Children's Recording and the
American Library Associa-
tion's Award for Noteable
Children's Albums.
In addition to the concert,
there will be a bee-keeping
demonstration, holiday
challah making with Reva
Thatch, shofar blowing and
many crafts. The event will
also mark the closing of Sefer
Safari, the community-wide
Jewish reading program. It
will be the final opportunity
for participants to pick up
their safari critters and have
their pictures taken for the
Jewish News.
At 1:30 p.m., there will be a
reception given by Shalom
Detroit, a project of Women's
Division of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, chaired
by Carol Hooberman, for

newcomers who have joined
the Detroit Jewish Communi-
ty this past year.

Art Classes Offered
For Adults, Children

The Southfield Art Center
will offer classes for adults
and children this fall.
Adult classes include basic
and copperplate calligraphy,
ceramics, basic and figure
drawing, painting, Oriental
brush painting, Japanese
flower arrangement, photog-
raphy and printmaking.
In addition, a new series of
cooking classes are scheduled,
and film close-up and psychic
adventure classes will con-
tinue. Classes for children
will range from drawing and
painting to working with
wood and exploring the
various techniques of pottery.
Also for the younger set, a
new program in the perform-
ing arts will be offered, and
the ongoing classical music
school will continue.
Registration ends Sept. 11.

Art On The Green
Set In Franklin

Art on the Green is sched-
uled for the sixth consecutive
Labor Day Round-Up in
Franklin Village, 10 a.m.-6
p.m.
More than 70 juried artists
will participate. The art fair,
is held in conjunction with
the Franklin Community ;
Association Annual Labor
Day Round-Up.
A parade will commence on
Franklin Road in the center
of the village with about 500'
participants. There will also
be a horse show, bake contest
and sale and many games.
