Forbes' Birthday Bash

t was everything one
could imagine, says Linda
Solomon, noted local
celebrity photographer . . .
and then some . . . both good
and bad . . . lavish and "the
pits" . . . fun and folly . . . an
experience the almost 800
who attended won't forget.
Much has been written
about the $3 million glitz
bash put on by Malcom
Forbes to celebrate his 70th
birthday . , . and from the
way a lot of attendees spoke,
he'll have to have a brand new
guest list for his next one.
But it was some big adven-
ture, says Linda, who was
among those traveling to
Morocco for Malcom Forbe's
huge shindig . . . mingling
with the rich and famous and
experiencing the niceties and
discomforts that seemed to
somewhat equalize each
other.
Birthday gala was at
Forbe's palace in Tangiers,
Palais Mendoub . . . This was
the elegant . . . Guests were
put up at the Hotel Solazur in
Tangiers . . . This was the
other side of the coin.

hot in Morocco, folks, it's hot!
Heck, if Humphrey Bogart
and Lauren Bacall in
Casablanca could think of
fans back in the'30s, no
reason why Malcolm Forbe's
$3 million bash couldn't have
had them.
Linda took four showers a
day to keep cool and ran out
of towels . . . Asking for more,
she was told no . . . so went to

Linda met her sister, Jill
Rappaport, WCBS-TV per-
sonality, in New York . . .
They left Kennedy Airport at
9:30 a.m. on Friday and arriv-
ed in Morocco at 8:30 p.m.,
greeted by Moroccan cavalry,
guards, belly dancers, singers,
camels, etc. . . . The time
distance between Morocco
and here is four hours.
Friday night was a welcom-
ing party, but Linda was
among others who didn't
.make it . . . Took four hours to
get their luggage because of
a close security check . . .
With so many celebrities,
guards were all over the place
. .. A very tired Linda went to
her very warm room and very
quickly fell asle.ep . . . a very
good way to beat the heat.
Saturday morning, she had
two showers before 10 and
wondered how in the world
people got along without air
conditioning ... Oh, for just
a teensey weensy fan.
Nicest part of the hotel was
its swimming pool .. . Yes,
Hotel Solazur had one . . . and
the thought of plunging into
the blue-green shimmering
waters was like a heaven-sent
dream . . . Only trouble was
that when Linda, Jill and
three female producers got
there, a luncheon was being
held for the near-800 guests.
