will discuss "Lamentations —
Biblical, Liturgical, Poetical!'
Everyone interested in a
spirited discussion in Yiddish
is invited.
The Friday Morning
Feature for Sept. 1 is
"Almonds & Raisins!" It will
be shown at 10 a.m. in the
Assembly Hall.
Cantor Max Shimansky
will conduct the Erev Shab-
bos program on Sept. 1 at
12:30 p.m. in Jaffe Hall.
Francis Weinberg will
review the book, Alicia, My
Story by Alicia Appleman
Jurman. This review will
take place Sept. 5 at 11 a.m.
in Room 4. The book details
the life of a young girl during
the Holocaust.
Another in the "Let's Talk
About Israel" lecture and
discussion series will take
place Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. in the
Assembly Hall. At that time,
"Fabs" Kaldobsky will ad-
dress the issues of the govern-
ment and political structure:
the social structure and inter-
nal stresses of Israel and the
Muslim World. Following the
lecture/discussion, the third
part of the movie Rhapsody in
Blue will be shown.
Chana Klein will review
Jewish literature on Sept. 6
at 10:15 a.m. in the library.
Rochelle Sable will discuss
her recent trip to her family's
home in Costa Rica at the
Yiddish Culture Club on
Sept. 7 at 12:30 p.m. in Jaffe
Hall.
Irving Herman will
facilitate the Press Review, a
current events discussion
group, on Sept. 7 at 12:45 p.m.
in Room 15.

munity Center is offering
daytime classes toward high
school completion at the Jim-
my Prentis Morris Building.

Cantor Najman
Leads Service

The Fleischman Residence
will host a Shabbat service
Sept. 9 featuring Cantor
Chaim Najman of Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek and
members of the Shaarey

Zedek choir under the direc-
tion of Eugene Zweig.
This will be the first time
residents will have an oppor-
tunity to hear a traditional
cantorial service with a can-
tor and choir in the
Fleischman sanctuary.
A kiddush will follow. The
service is open to the
community.

Musical Group
Scheduled Sept. 11

The senior adult depart-
ment of the Jewish Com-
munity Center of Metro-
politan Detroit plans a
lighthearted musical after-
noon when The Rainbow Con-
nection, a performing group
of the Birmingham Musicale,
entertains on Sept. 11 at
12:30 p.m. in Shiffman Hall of
the Maple/Drake building. A
dessert buffet will be served.
There is a fee, and reserva-
tions are required.

Games Classes
Are Offered

The Jewish Community
Center will offer four weekly
sessions of canasta,
9:30-11:30 a.m. beginning
Tuesday.
Mah jongg classes have
been scheduled from
9:30-11:30 a.m. beginning
Thursday.
There is a fee for both
classes. Advanced registra-
tion is requested.

5 Yiddish Films
Planned At JCC

The Senior Adult Depart-
ment of the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Building of the Jewish
Community Center an-
nounces a_Yiddish film series
on Fridays at 10 a.m. in the
Assembly Hall. On Sept. 1 is
Almonds and Raisins; on
Sept. 8 is Mamele; on Sept. 15
is Image Before My Eyes; on
Sept. 22 is Jewish Soul Music,
featuring Giora Feidman; and
on Sept. 29 is Ydl Mitn Fidl.
These films have been pro-
vided through the Charles
and Frances Driker Fund for
Yiddish Culture.

Vision And Blood
Tests In Oak Park

Free vision screening and
blood pressure testing will be
held at the Empire of
America Bank, 25555
Coolidge Rd., Oak Park from
noon-4:30 p.m. today spon-
sored by the Michigan Eye
Center.
