Paris (JTA) — The Justice
Ministry has decided to press
charges of "racist defama-
tion" against Jean-Marie Le
Pen, the leader of the extreme
right-wing National Front,
for claiming that Jews
subvert French patriotism.
The charge of "racist
defamation," a misdemeanor
under. French law, will be bas-
ed on an interview with Le
Pen published last week by a
right-wing daily.
It quoted him as accusing
"International Judaism" of
undermining national spirit
and patriotic sentiments in
France.
Several French Jewish
organizations have urged the
government to take legal ac-
tion against Le Pen, who has
made similar charges against
the Masonic lodges.
Le Pen has been a strident
voice on the far right of
French politics in recent
years. While denying he is
anti-Semitic, he has publicly
called the Holocaust a hoax.

seats in the Strasbourg-based
European Parliament, the

The French Justice
Ministry will ask that body to
strip Le Pen of his parliamen-
tary immunity so that he can
be brought to trial.

surrogate South Lebanon
Army.
At least 800 Lebanese are

since the Syrian army laun-
