she is my age.
Looking at my 11-year-old
and 5-year-old cousins' com-
mand of the language and
dress, it is hard to believe
they have only been here
since January. I realize age
makes a difference.

Speaking of clothes, you
would laugh at what I wear.
" I would have never put them
on before. They reflect the dif-
ferent culture. Here, people
are more relaxed in general;
therefore, their clothes are
more informal.
I remember worrying about
the government policy, which
sets a limit on the percentage
of Jews who can go to college
in the Soviet Union. Even if
I would be fortunate to get in,
I knew there would then be
restrictions on the jobs
available to me.
Now I worry how I will
choose from all the oppor-
tunities opened to me. Here I
feel that each person can
shape their own destiny. My
own capabilities will deter-
mine my success.
I still have so much to tell
you, but it is hard to put my
feelings into words.
