To Act a Geneva (JTA) — U.S. Am- bassador Morris Abram last week urged a United Nations subcommission to denounce the seizure and threatening of hostages by terrorist organizations. In his first public statement since becoming U.S. am- bassador to the United Na- tions European headquarters here, Abram said that the conduct of terrorist hostage- takers is more reminiscent of a barbaric age than of present-day standards of civilization. He said the U.N. Subcom- mission on the Prevention of Discrimination and Protec- tion of Minorities should con- demn hostage-taking. Abram added that the sub- commission should avoid lengthy polemical debates followed by resolutions that do nothing to alleviate ge- nuine human rights problems. "With truth as our objective and balanced evenhanded- ness as our method, we shall succeed," he told the subcommission. L ■ Future ads in this series will cover all six of the Ballas Benefits. Congress is expected to debate a slightly modified version of the principles: American companies engaged in commerce with the Soviet Union: 1) Will not produce goods or that services provide replenish the Soviet military. 2) Will not use goods or pro- ducts manufactured by forced labor in the Soviet Union. 3) Will safeguard Soviet employees prone to dismissal based upon politics, religion or ethnic background. 4) Will decline to par- ticipate in a commercial tran- saction if the place of work is a Soviet-confiscated religious edifice. 5) Will ensure that methods of production do not post an irresponsible physical danger to Soviet workers, neighbor- ing populations and property. 6) Will refrain from making untied loans to the Soviet government — loans which may be used to subsidize Soviet non-peaceful activities. 7) Will attempt to engage in joint ventures with private cooperatives rather than in- stitutions connected directly to the Soviet state. 11P" V+111r w CO WITH NATURAL BARK 14" WICKER PLANTER J 7...Pr:. 4 4 k/A The Leasing Company That Cares George Ballas Leasing, Inc.
