She is grateful too for having the kind of nose that can smell its way homeward after eight days of being lost. During their July 4 day off, Cindi and Jeff Metz spent the day in seclusion while her girlfriend, Valda McLain, was taking Keesha back to Valda's home in Northville . . . Fire- works suddenly lit up the skies with a bang and the frightened black labrador dog ran away . . . The days went by very slowly as heart- stricken Cindi and Jeff searched and searched for their beloved dog . . . called the police, Animal Control, Humane Society, put up signs, ran an ad, etc. . . . but no sign of Keesha. A woman saw a strange dog wandering about and called the Novi police . . . They remembered Cindi's descrip- tion and told Sue McDonald, who called that she might have Keesha . . . Cindi ex- citedly went over to see .. . Jeff left Camp Ibmarack, where he is director. Tears filled Cindi's eyes as Keesha jumped the fence and knocked her over in excite- ment . . . licking Cindi's face with wild joy . . . She had walked four miles or more looking for her home . . . and that night slept there with thankful contentment as "mom and dad," Cindi and Jeff, looked at her, then at each other, and kissed with warm happiness.
