Together,
there's so much
good we can do.

brisket of beef with
mushrooms and onions, the
very popular roast chicken for
two ($8.95), etc. . . . No
salamis hanging, but plenty
of salami, corned beef,
pastrami, chopped liver, fresh
roasted turkey, homemade
cole slaw and potato salad,
etc.
Single deckers, combina-
tions, triple deckers, soups,
burgers and so much more.
One of the big things at Irv-
ing's has always been its
abundance of parking . . . It's
so much more in the evening
when the La Mirage shops
are closed.
The new Irving's is open
Tuesday through Sunday,
8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Mon-
day, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Many times, when a restau-
rant changes ownership, the
person or persons buying it
look only at the green sup-
posedly on the other side .. .
Not enough concentration or
thought is given to very im-
portant facts like knowledge,
ability to roll with the pun-
ches of good and bad times,
common sense without
uneven temperament and so
much more . . . plus heart.
Luck entered the picture
that someone like Kurt Deeg
would be one of the pur-
chasers with Harry Newman
. . . His experience as a res-
taurateur is invaluable . . .
He knows people . . . how to
treat them . . . and give good
value.
The new Irving's takes a
giant step forward.
ERRATA, TYPO, Etc.
Dept. . . . Correct name is
Melissa Levine, not Melenie
Levine . . . She and hubby
Richard are bossfolks of the
new Yogurt On Wheels.
THE GOLD MEDAL that
will soon be displayed at Bud-
dy's Pizza on Northwestern
was recently won by Billy
Jacobs, owner with son
Robert and wife Shirley of the
fine small pizza chain.
He's still in great shape at
70 . . . and along with localite
Max Sheldon, 72, was on the
65-and-over eight person ten-
nis team that won a gold
medal for the United States
in the Maccabiah Games in
Tel Aviv, Israel . . . Billy
played both singles and
doubles . . . and had his
gallery of son Robert, wife
Shirley, daughter and son-in-
law Monni and Joel Must and
four grandchildren.
OPENING IS expected
this week of the new Beverly
Hills Gourmet Yogurt & Ice
Cream on Southfield Road
north of 13 Mile . . . Menu
will also include soups and
sandwiches . . . and have
carry-out orders via fax,
which seems to be the new

trend in carry-out ordering
. . . Wouldn't it be something
if the order also could be
faxed?
NICKY'S Sixth Anniver-
sary party is Sept. 11 from
5 p.m. at lbp of Troy Bldg.
Concourse on West Big
Beaver in Troy.
REMEMBER the name
Bassonetti? . . . Those who
frequented the Red Devil
from 1966 to 1980 will recall
those excellent dishes
prepared by Vincenzo Basson-
etti while he was chef/owner
of the informal and still good
dining spot on Fenkell east of
Greenfield.
Vincenzo is back from Texas
and owner/chef with Frank
Manzo at Cafe Vincenzo on
Ford Road and Middlebelt in
the K-Mart Shopping Plaza.
Among the delights Vincen-
zo is noted for . . . (you'll have
to ask the waitperson because
it's not on the menu) . . . is his
linguine pescatore — clams,
shrimp, mussels and squid in
a very tasty marinara sauce.
And those who have had
Italian dining elsewhere .. .
even Italy . . . and don't find
anyone to make their par-
ticular favorite, can have
Vincenzo Bassonetti prepare
it for them . . . On some, it
might be a good idea to call
ahead so he can get the pro-
per ingredients.
WHEN OUT on the town
at places you don't normally
frequent, be sure to check
your tab . . . r tho many non-
popular places have a habbit
of "padding" the bill and
there's not much you can do
about it after the damage is
done . . . Don't just say, "I'll
never go there again!" .. .
Think of the next person .. .
If more people will look over
their checks, these places will
give another thought to tack-
ing on extra do-re-mi . . .
Michigan's Liquor Control
Commission is among the
strictest . . . and frowns heavi-
ly on these types of places.
