Kanter Dr. Norman E. Kanter, a dentist in the Detroit area for more than 50 years, died Ju- ly 18 at age 81. Born and raised in Detroit, he was a dentist in Royal Oak from 1932 to 1985. He was a captain in the U.S. Navy dur- ing World War II. Dr. Kanter did undergraduate and dental studies at the University of Michigan. He was a member of Perfection Lodge of the Masons, Adat Shalom Synagogue, a life member of the American and Michigan dental associations, Tam O'Shanter Country Club and the Disabled American Veterans. He leaves his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Marcia) Buch and Mrs. Joel (Betsy) Cohen; a sister, Mrs. ,) Samuel (Ann) Weinstein; and four grandchildren. Weiss-Rosmarin Dies at 81 New York (JTA) — Trude Weiss-Rosmarin, Jewish author, editor and columnist, died in her Santa Monica, Calif., home a few weeks ago, after a year's bout with cancer. She was 81 years old. Weiss-Rosmarin was regarded as a maverick and known for her outspoken posi- tions against bureaucracy in the Jewish and Israeli do- mains. She was a strong believer in peaceful coex- istence with the Arabs. Weiss-Rosmarin espoused her views in her quarterly journal, The Jewish Spectator, which she published for 53 years. Trude Weiss was born June 17, 1908, in Frankfurt, Ger- many, and studied at the Universities of Berlin, Leip- zig and Wurzburg. At Wurz- burg, she received a doctorate in Semitics, archaeology and philosophy in 1931, following which she immigrated to the United States. She married editor and educator Aaron Rosmarin, a Russian Jew who wrote books on Jewish subjects. Although their marriage ended in divorce, she continued to use her hyphenated married name, because she had made a career with it, explained ar- tist Nissim Sevan, her second husband, to whom she was married for 35 years. David Rivlin David Rivlin, a parapelegic victim of a swimming acci- dent 20 years ago who receiv- ed court permission to turn off life support equipment keeing him alive, died July 20. He was 38. He leaves his aunt, Marion Gornbein; and counsins, Naomi Zeitz and Tova Oblak. During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will observe the yahrzeits of the following departed friends, with the traditional memorial prayers, recitation of kaddish and studying of mishnayos. LIEBERSTEIN Special to The Jewish News R ita Levine, a 39-year- old Philadelphia at- torney, died suddenly and unexpectedly of respiratory complications last Tuesday at Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem, Israel. She was the 15th vic- tim of the July 6 terrorist at- tack that sent an Egged bus hurling into a 200-foot ravine as it traveled from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Levine had suffered a col- lapsed lung, multiple broken bones and a spinal injury in the crash. Speaking for the U.S. State Department, Arthur Berger, public affairs advisor for Near East and South Asian Affairs, Marilyn Lieberstein is a writer for the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent. said, "We're saddened by the news of her tragic death and we extend our sympathy to Rita Levine's family." "We have condemned this terrorist violence which resulted in the deaths and in- juries of so many innocent people." Levine was the first U.S. resident to die in a terrorist incident in Israel since 1978, and the only one to lose her life during the 19 months since the intifada began.
