Detroit NCSY presents
Torah Talk, a weekly discus-
sion for high school teens on
relevant Jewish topics led by
Rabbi Mark Volk.
Following each weekly
discussion will be an activity
period under the direction of
David Winter, NCSY's
regional special projects
coordinator.
Torah Talk will begin Mon-
day at 8 p.m. at Young Israel
of Southfield.

Teens Admire
Alaska Beauty

Editor's Note: This summer,
many Detroit-area teens par-
ticipating in various Jewish
camping experiences were ask-
ed to send "letters from camp"
to The Jewish News. This let-
ter is from Karen Zalenko,
who is participating in the
Fresh Air Society's Alaskan
Adventure.
Imagine vividly in your
mind the most beautiful pic-
ture: snow-capped mountains
towering over some of the
most gorgeous aqua-colored
lakes. Now, picture yourself
hiking among this awesome
beauty. This describes the
beginning of the Alaskan
Adventure Trip.
The first three to four days
were spent driving — and
driving — and driving. Many
people think all this time on
a green Tamarack bus would
be boring, but they're wrong.
How can you not have fun on
a bus with 16 great campers
and three fun counselors? We
sing, play cards, write letters,
sleep and fight over who can
lay on the duffels.
On the fourth day we arriv-
ed in Calgary. We visited the
Calgary zoo and later stopped
and took pictures of the ski
jumps used in the Olympics.
That night we stayed in a
modern campsite surrounded
by the Canadian Rockies
(Bow Valley Campsite).
On the fifth day we arrived
in Banff. We writ into town
and saw a short movie about
the mountains, lakes, wildlife
and activities around Banff.
That afternoon we took a
short hike. During the hike it
began to storm, but we trudg-
