he love affair that
started with a phone
call by instigators on
The Jewish News staff,
writers Kim Lifton and Carla
Schwartz, ended up happily
ever after for Jewish News
features editor Elizabeth
Kaplan and Guardian In-
dustries' Phillip Applebaum.
In an Orthodox ceremony of
merriment, Elizabeth's last
name was changed to Ap-
plebaum as she and Phillip
became wife and husband at
Young Israel of Oak-Woods.
There was Liz on a throne
in one room, - Ranked by
mother Claudia- and sister
Rebecca . . . In another room
sat Phil at a table where li-
quor and sponge cake were for
gents to partake while legal
documents are executed .. .
One is the marital conditions
and the other defining
responsibilities of the groom
to the wife.
Phil was then brought into
Liz's room by hand-clapping
men as he looked to make
sure she was the right girl.
Under the chupah Liz walk-
ed around Phil (wearing a
