hope to make the ball an an-
nual event, but none would
disclose goals for the endow-
ment fund.
"We don't know how much
money we intend to raise,"
Steinberg said. "The thrust is
to try to heighten awareness.

as people learn more."

the committee approved the
ball because it does not con-
flict with the Campaign cor-
ridor of Dec. 1 through March
31.
"This is concentrating on
known friends of the hospital
— board members, members
of the Sinai Guild and their
supporters," Robinson said.
The Federation set up
guidelines for independent
appeals about 10 years ago,
setting aside the campaign
corridor dates for the com-
munity campaign and
limiting fund raising to re-
quests by Federation agencies
for $200 or more.
Robinson said the indepen-
dent appeals committee turns
down 50 percent of its re-
quests because of scheduling
and other factors. But, he
said, the agencies often come
back to the committee with
new dates or new slants and
get approved. Robinson said
the committee receives re-
quests from about 30 agencies
and organizations a year.
Ball co-chair Leah Snider, a
hosptial trustee, said en-
thusiasm for the Sinai event
is overwhelming. Dr. Jerrold
Weinberg, staff liason to the
board of trustees, added that
many medical staff members
are supportive of the ball and
plan to attend.
"We want to increase public
awareness and show the com-
munity that Sinai is alive and
well," Dr. Weinberg said. El
