Cincinnati (JTA) — The
Reform Judaism that is near-
ing the 21st century is
decidedly more traditional
than the Reform Judaism
that approached the 20th cen-
tury 100 years ago.
That was apparent this past
week, as more than 600
Reform rabbis gathered in
Cincinnati for the centennial
celebration of the Central
Conference of American Rab-
bis.
Speaking in the historic
Plum Street Temple, Rabbi
Eugene Lipman of
Washington, on the other
hand, challenged the Reform
rabbinate to be more tradi-
tional, while still retaining
its liberal perspective.
And a resolution passed last
week called for members of
the CCAR and their consti-
tuent organizations and
synagogues to observe all
sacred festivals and holy days
on their prescribed Hebrew
dates.
