goalkeeper Mark Tepper.
The men's basketball com-
petition saw the U.S. entry,
coached by Eastern Michigan
University's Ben Braun,
march through the competi-
tion. The first day featured a
107-65 victory over
Switzerland, with Yram Groff
scoring 21 points. On Day 2,
with Albert Moscatel scoring
20, the U.S. squad trounced
Brazil, 107-46. On Day 3, the
United States defeated
France, 114-57, and followed
that with a 142-64 romp over
Belgium. The U.S. team re-
mained undefeated with a
115-79 win over Britain.
The Americans also re-
mained undefeated in soft-
ball, with a 13-0 shutout of
Panama. Pitcher Dave
Blackburn two-hit Canada in
a 4-0 victory. He has yet to
yield a run in the Maccabiah.
The U.S. men's volleyball
team won a straight set vic-
tory over Uruguay. But the
women's volleyball team fell
to Brazil, and Israel dunked
the U.S. water polo team 14-9
in the finals.
The American wrestling
team took the gold in
freestyle and the silver in
Greco-Roman competition.
They were led by Robinson
Prebish, Solomon Fleckman
and Darren Schulman, who
each won a gold in both
classifications.
American weight lifter
Michael Cohen won the gold
medal at his fourth con-
secutive Maccabiah. He has
12 Maccabiah records in four
weight classes. In tennis, U.S.
top seed Daniel Goldberg
moved into the 16th round,
along with David Pollack and
Douglas Eisenman.
Goldberg, of the University
of Michigan, paired with Mit-
chell Krupp of Searington,
N.Y., defeated Naor and
Daniel of Israel, 6-0, 6-7, 6-2,
to win a tennis doubles
quarterfinals match.
Four American women also
advanced with victories last
week.

IDF To Use
Rubber Pellets

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israeli
security forces engaged in riot
control are replacing plastic
bullets with a new type of
rubber bullet considered less
lethal, Mdariv reported last
week.
Meanwhile, the commander
of the border police told
reporters Tuesday that using
classic riot control methods, it
would take some 200,000 men
to crush the 17-month-old
Palestinian uprising in the
West Bank and Gaza Strip.
