Israeli Court OKs Showing Jerusalem (JTA) — The High Court of Justice ruled last week that the controver- sial 1988 film The Last Temp- tation of Christ may be shown in Israel. The court thereby reversed the government censor, who banned the film from Israeli screens on grounds that it was offensive to Christians. The Last Temptation of Christ, a Universal Pictures film, was directed by Martin Scorsese and based on a novel by the late Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis. By depicting the "human side" of Jesus, including his sexuality, the film offended some Christians, though it was praised by others. The High Court decided after seeing the film that on- ly "an extreme, brutal and deep insult can justify a viola- tion of the freedom of expres- sion." Hurt In Bus Attacks Tel Aviv (JTA) — The Egg- ed bus cooperative reported last week that 337 people have been hurt in 3,136 at- tacks on its passenger buses since the Palestinian uprising began in the administered territories 18 months ago. But there have been no fatalities. Egged said 42 of its buses were damaged. Bus windows have been reinforced with wire mesh to decrease the possibility of in- jury from flying objects. Egged, which predates the state by many years, provides interurban and local bus ser- vices throughout Israel, ex- cept in the Tel Aviv area, where the Dan bus cooperative holds the franchise. 15 In France Awarded Medal Paris (JTA) — Three Catholic priests and a Protes- tant minister were among 15 French recipients of Yad Vashem's "Righteous Among Nations" medal. The Yad Vashem Founda- tion in Jerusalem perpetuates the memory of Jews who died in the Holocaust and the memory of non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews. One of the recipients, the late Protestant minister Marc Boegnerwas, was the first French clergyman to publicly protest the racial laws.
