Seniors Have
Shabbat Event

The senior adult depart-
ment of the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Bulding of the Jewish
Community Center will have
its weekly Erev Shabbat pro-
gram today at 12:30 p.m. in
Jaffe Hall. Cantor Max
Shimansky will direct the
program.
The weekly mah jongg
class, conducted by Helen Rit-
ter, wil meet at 12:30 p.m. on
Mondays in room 11.
The second program in the
monthly series "Let's Talk
About Israel," will feature
Fabs Kaldobsky. He will
discuss his World War II ex-
periences Tuesday at 1 p.m. in
the asembly hall. Following
the lecture, the first part of
the movie Yankee Doodle
Dandy will be shown.
The first of the Out and
About trips will take place
Wednesday at 10 a.m. Par-
ticipants will go, via luxury
motor coach, to the lakeside
home of Lauren Liss. The day
includes a pontoon boat ride,
dessert and beverage and
entertainment.
Violinist Sid Mann will
entertain the Yiddish
Culture Club on Thursday at
12:30 p.m. in Jaffe Hall.
Irving Herman will direct
the Press Review, a current
events discussion group, on
Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in
room 15.

Senior Center
Acquires Van

Oak Park Mayor Charlotte
Rothstein accepted the keys
for a 10-passenger van equip-
ped with a wheelchair lift for
handicapped seniors on
behalf of the Oak Park recrea-
tion department's outreach
office.
The medical transportation
program services Oak Park
and North Royal Oak
Township senior citizens age
55 and over for medical ap-
pointments within a seven-
mile radius of the Oak Park
Community Center.
Clients must be members of
the Oak Park Senior Center.
They should call for transpor-
tation arrangements as soon
as medical appointments are
made. Rides are provided on
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday,
and. Friday between 9 a.m.
and 3 p.m. There is a nominal
fee.
The van was donated by In-
dependence For Life through
Michigan National Bank.

Grief Focus
Of Program

The Oak Park senior
outreach office will sponsor
programs on healing and
growing through grief,
presented by Blue Cross/Blue
Shield of Michigan, beginni-
ing Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at
the Oak Park Community
Center, 14300 Oak Park Blvd.

Contest Seeks
Senior Women

West Bloomfield Parks and
Recreation is seeking senior
adult women to enter the an-
nual Ms. Senior Michigan
competition. The pageant will
be held in October at the
Macomb Center for the Per-
forming Arts. Winners of this
competition will be eligible to
compete in the national
pageant.

plicants must be 60 years or
older and residents of the
state of Michigan.

Thro Will Join
Freedom Tour

The Youth Committee of the
Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit has
awarded scholarships to two
area teens, enabling them to
participate in a tour of historic
sites connected to the civil
rights movement.
Laura Hurwitz, 17, a senior
at East Lansing High School,
and Aaron Lichterman, 15, a
junior at Berkley High School,
have been selected to receive
subsidies for the Freedom
Tour, sponsored by the
Michigan Coalition for
Human Rights.

Scheduled to take place
from July 19 to Aug. 8, the
tour will involve participation
in an educational program at
the Martin Luther King, Jr.
Center in Atlanta, Ga.;
meeting with civil rights ac-
tivists and a tour of historic
places in the South that were
scenes of civil rights activities
in the 1960s. '
Howard I. Wallach is chair-
man of the youth committee.
Following the tour, Laura
and Aaron will speak to
Jewish youth groups and com-
munity organizations about
their experiences.
