CLEAN BATHROOM

Dept. . . . Stage & Co. on Or-
chard Lake Road . . . This is
always a restaurant tribute

because it many times is also
the sign of a clean kitchen.

FINALLY SOMEONE

with a seating chart to show
where your table is . . .
Whoever makes up these
table numbering arrange-
ments must be scrabble-mad.
Was at recent black-tie din-
ner by Greater Detroit
Chapter, City of Hope, with
Spirit of Life Award presented
to Tony Franco, head of An-
thony M. Franco public rela-
tions, at Hyatt Regency
Dearborn.
A first at the fine dinner .. .
individual dishes of margar-
ine by the plates of all at-
tendees . . . quite a nice twist
. . . so much better than ask-
ing around to "pass the
marge, please."
And the open bar never
closed . . . not during dinner,
the speeches, or any time,
which is also something not
seen at too many public
affairs.
About the food, I asked
Klaus Peters, Hyatt Regency
general manager. if they had
a new chef . . . it was so good
. . . He says no, but something
must have happened . . . it
was never like this.
The hors d'oeuvres passed
before dinner were superb .. .
a wide variety of delicious
goodies . . . as waiters con-
tinually poured wine the en-
tire evening . . . Dinner in-
cluded appetizer of gefilte fish
and lox, salad with red cab-
bage, raspberry sorbet, veal
and halibut . . . and dessert of
chocolate and raspberry torte
. . . on plate with City of Hope
written in chocolate.

Only thing that marred a
fine evening were too many
speeches . . . J.P. McCarthy,
WJR radio host, introduced
everyone and a majority
stayed to also hear composer-
pianist Marvin Hamlisch,
backed by Mel Ball and-
Colours, who played dinner
music and for dancing.

About 700 enjoyed the even-
ing, a truly class event .. .
among the crowd were Edna
and Joe Slavik, Lorraine and
Elliot Shubiner, Judy and
Jerry Greenbaum, Peggy and
Dr. Mark Saffer, president of
the Greater Detroit Chapter,
City of Hope; Betty and Dr.
Bob Gerisch, Harry and
Peggy Ellman, Lillian Jaffe-
Oaks and hubby Sam Oaks,
Lisa and Ron Slavik, Lois and
Dr. Morrie Lipnik, Lorraine
Schultz, Loretta Lorion,
Kristine and Klaus Peters,
etc. ❑

and American rhythms .. .
and a strolling trio of two
guitars and concertina placed
happy music into the ears of
joyous attendees.
Big limo pulled up, and out
came Richard and Karen Lutz
. . . The long beauty is one of
two owned by Heritage Club
Limo, of which Dick is among
the partners .
Bill Davidson, Detroit
Pistons general partner, Sig
and Irene Beras, Judy and
John Beras, Vi and Steve
Hurite, John Cetrone
(without any of his tricks,
dang it), Vicki and Ray
Goldbaum, Antonio and Lin-
da Foglia, Jose Reyes were
there . . . no thanks to the gal
with the mammoth clock
purse . . . it had the wrong
time.
Yael Goldbaum was with
sister Rebecca Goldbaum,
who now has another last
name . . . She met Fred Dia-
mond on a single's mission to
Israel sponsored by Jewish
federations of different cities
. . . He came from Phila-
delphia and Rebecca from this
area . . . They shared a bus
and now share a condo in
Virginia as man and wife .. .
Monsieur George Zeff with
the oo-la-la tilted wide-
brimmed straw hat.
Sue and Les Goldstein,
Paula and Todd Kilroy, Don
and Arlene Gross, Zelda and
Eli Robinson, Pete Cristiano
doing the decaf pouring,
Shirley and Ray Abrams, Gail
Shapiro, Al Tyner, Jeri
Brandt, Varda and Nimrod
Rosenthal, Leah Baum,
George Weingarden, Virginia
and Larry Schwartz, Dee and
Dr. Marshall Shapiro were at
the anniversary party.
Mustachio'd Sid Lantz
showing pictures of his
beautiful English setter, six-
year-old Lance . . . and leav-
ing to go home for an awaited
walk with him.
Watiress Charlene Coyne,
who works lunches at
Ristorante di Modesta, was
indicative of the very fine, ef-
ficient and gracious service
by Modesta's and Manuel's
excellent staff . . . Judge
Steve Cooper and so many,
many more . . . both inside
and outside.
Nice to see people like
Modesta and Manuel
celebrating an anniversary of
their restaurant . . . It is a
success because of them.
