CAJE Offers
Writing Prize

New York — An annual
prize of $1,000 for a short
story on a Jewish theme will
be offered by the Coalition for
the Advancement of Jewish
Education (CAJE).
To be known as the David
Dornstein Memorial Creative
Writing Contest for Young
Adult Writers, it is a tribute
to 25-year-old Dornstein, a
former CAJE staff member
who was killed in the crash of
the Pan Am plane over
Lockerbie, Scotland, last
December.
He had served as conference
assistant for the 1988 CAJE
conference in Jerusalem last
August, and had chosen to
spend additional time in
Israel before returning to the
United States. He was also
conference assistant for the
1987 CAJE conference in Car-
rolton, Ga.
The contest is open to
anyone between the ages of
18 and 35. Entrants need not
be CAJE members. Each en-
trant may submit one story of
5,000 words or less in any
calendar year. The story must
be original, and must never-
have been published or reciev-
ed an award.
The deadline for this year's
contest is Dec. 31. Presenta-
tion of the award will take
placed at the annual CAJE
conference in August 1990.

Educator Goes
To Seminar

Donna Borglin of Bloom-
field hills, who teaches world
cultures and sixth grade
English at East Hills Middle
School, will fly to Israel Sun-
day to take part in an inten-
sive three-week course on
teaching the Holocaust and
Jewish resistance during the
Nazi era.
Mrs. Borglin is one of 45
teachers, Jewish and non-
Jewish, representing a cross-
section of communities in 22
states and the District of Col-
umbia, who will participate
in this program. They will at-
tend classes with prominent
scholars and study materials
about the Holocaust and its
meaning for the Jewish peo-
ple and for all of human
society.
The program is sponsored
by the American Gather-
ing/Federation of Jewish
Holocaust Survivors, the
American Federation of
Teachers, Ghetto Fighters

House in Israel, Yad Vashem,
Haifa University and the
Educator Chapter of the
Jewish Labor Committee.

been installed as president of
the school's board of directors.
Active in Jewish Welfare
Federation, Riback serves on
the Culture and Education
