Canoeing
To Toronto?

Talk about missing the boat
— or, in this case, "canoe".
A number of Detroit-area
Jewish singles were left
"stranded on the shore", so to
speak, when they called too
late to register for a canoe
trip held in conjunction with
Ann Arbor Jewish singles
last weekend on the Huron
River, according to Leanie
Gunsberg, Jewish Communi-
ty Center singles coordinator.
Twenty Detroiters
registered by the June 22
deadline, said Gunsberg, "but
at least 10 called to register
the day after the deadline.
"I had to tell them there
just were no more canoes,"
she said. "It's very important
that deadlines for registra-
tion are met, because we are
dealing with businesses that
have to know how many
canoes or other items to supp-
ly."
With that in mind,
Gunsberg said she was exten-
ding the registration for the
Singles' Toronto trip for one
week — until July 7.
About 14 singles have sign-

ed up for the July 28-30 trip
and have paid their deposits.
Singles from Ann Arbor and
Buffalo, N.Y., also will be join-
ing the host Toronto Jewish
singles community.
For information, call the
Center, 661-1000, Ext. 347.
A Shabbat service followed
by an Oneg featuring Shirley
Berman, social services direc-
tor of the psychology clinic at
Wayne State University, is
planned for 8 p.m. July 7 at
Temple Emanu-El in Oak
Park.
Berman, a social worker,
will lead a discussion on
positive attitudes that con-
tribute to an enjoyable singles
lifestyle. She also will discuss
developing assertiveness
skills, cognitive principles
and Jewish ideals.
For information, call the
Center, 661-1000, Ext. 347.
The Singles will hold a
summer dinner and card-and-
board-game party at Frank
Snower's residence, 6:30 p.m.
July 9. Participants are ask-
ed to bring a food item, and
there is a charge. For reserva-
tions, call either 557-1548 or
355-0981.
Co-ed softball and volleyball
are being offered at 10 a.m.
onSundays through
September by the Singles.
There is a fee for first-time
participants. For information
and location, call the Center,
661-1000, Ext. 347.

dress barbecue dinner, music

draws some 500 Jewish single
adults, will be held outside,
weather permitting.

vance, or at the door. For in-
formation, call Leanie
Gunsberg, singles coor-
dinator, at 661-1000, Ext.
347.
