The teachers project was launched four years ago as a pilot program involving 30 participants from the New York area. Two years ago the program was expanded to in- clude teachers from all parts of the country and was put on an annual basis. The program is sponsored by the American Gather- ing/Federation of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, the American Federation of Teachers, Ghetto Fighters House in Israel, Yad Vashem, Haifa University and the Educator Chapter of the Jewish Labor Committee. Scholarships for the pro- gram are provided by the American Gathering. Vladka Meed, author of Both Sides of the Wall, an account of her ex- periences in the Warsaw Ghetto, serves as program coordinator. Classes will be held five days a week, mostly at the Ghetto Fighters House, a documentation and study center that also houses Israel's Museum of the Holocaust and Resistance. • Weight Control • Individual Counseling • Eating Disorder Specialty 647-5540 DEA FARRAH MSW, ACSW BINGHAM CENTER, BIRMINGHAM AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY' Help us keep winning. British Time Apologizes For Nazi-Style Ad London (JTA) — Time is to publish an unprecedented full-page apology for running a Nazi-style advertisement in a recent British edition of the magazine. The ad, for a London slide show company, showed a Nazi podium backed by pink and pastel blue swastika flags. The caption read: "Poor use of color can ruin your presenta- tion. Using inappropriate col- ors can completely take the edge off an aggressive presen- tation." It promised to show how "special effects can excite a flagging audience" and "how symbols can be used to ex- plain ideas." It added: "We can't promise to get your name in the history books, but it should find its way into a client's notebook." Appalled readers protested to the company, the Hatton Garden-based Presentation Co., to Time magazine and the advertising agency, Tilby and Leeves. "It looks like a Nazi adver- tisement," said Labor Parlia- ment member Greville Dan- ner. "It's meant to be a joke, but it's the most disastrous form of humor gone wrong that it's possible to conceive." Other newspapers and magazines turned down the advertisement. Time apologized for the lapse, say- ing it "maintains strict pro- cedures for acceptance of advertising materials, but regrettably our system fail- ed."
