Seek Volunteers
For Food Day

Volunteers are being sought
by the Jewish Community
Council to help recruit par-
ticipants for "the 7 percent
Solution," a campaign to raise
funds for emergency food pro-
viders in Michigan in obser-
vance of World Food Day.
Four years ago, at the sug-
gestion of the Council, the
fund-raising campaign was
adopted as a project of the
Detroit Committee for World
Food Day. World Food Day,
which has been observed
every Oct. 16 ince 1980, is a
day dedicated to educating
the community about the
problem of world hunger, and
working for solutions to the
problem.
"The 7 percent Solution"
asks restaurants to agree to
donate a portion of their gross
receipts from a given date to
the Hunger Action Coalition
(a member of the Committee
for World Food Day). The
Hunger Action Coalition will
distribute proceeds among
emergency food providers, ac-
cording to need.
