SHLOMO MINTZ

BOLCOM & MORRIS

SHLOMO MINTZ was born in 1957 in
Russia and grew up in Israel. There
he studied the violin with Ilona
Feher, Pinchas Zukerman's teacher.
Isaac Stern heard Mintz play and
recognized his tremendous talent,
and therewith paved the way for
Mintz's instruction with Dorothy
Delay at the Julliard School in New
York. The young violinist continued
to receive encouragement from
Stern throughout his studies.

"WITH A SONG IN THEIR HEARTS'
"She is a classically trained singer/actres
who has done opera and serious concert
music. He is a renowned composer)
pianist who studied with Darius Milhaud
and one of whose scores had its world
premiere at the Stuttgart Opera. Yeti
when Joan Morris and William Bolcom
get together on the concert stage, the
usual matter at hand is a marvelously',
varied repertory of American popular,
songs, from vaudeville numbers of Lillian
Russell's era to the show tunes of Broad
way's heyday. She sings them straight)
her mezzo-soprano aglow with wonder )
ment of the simple dramatic beauty of
a Kern or a Gershwin phrase. He
provides an elegant partnership at th e
keyboard that transcends the rathei
denigrating recital-hall term 'acconH
panist"Don't worry about whether this
is classical or popular, they seem to be
telling us. 'J ust listen; isn't it wonderful?1
Yes, it is." —NEWSWEEK

Each concert performed by Shlomo
Mintz reaffirms his success story. As
Alan Blyth of The Daily Telegraph
writes, "In the past few years, Shlomo
Mintz has established himself as pro-
bably the most exciting violinist of his
generation'...and with little wonder.
His technique is flawless, and his tone
contains all those special elements of
harmony and individuality, which
characterize the playing of only the
greatest violinists.
