Greenpeace, ISF Helped By BBYO Jolson AZA with help from Shiia BBG and Daniel Men- doza AZA raised $450 in the first canoe outing for the B'nai B'rith Youth Organiza- tion's International service fund. Eighty percent, or $360, is being donated to ISF and the remainder is being sent to Greenpeace, an international organization aimed at saving the environment. The ISF is the fund-raising mechanism for the members to contribute towards BBYO training programs. They col- lected $103,241 last year to support BBYO's summer leadership camps at BBYO's camps in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, Aleph Zadik Aleph/B'nai B'rith Girls philanthropies in the United States, AZA/BBG projects in Israel, and additional youth and staff training programs. Jolson AZA held the canoe outing under the direction of Marc Harwin. The Fresh Air Society lent Jolson AZA the canoes for the outing. Convention Leaders Picked The Great Lakes AZA and BBG Councils announce Lee Burnstein of Southfield (Rose AZA) and Kelley Slutsky of West Bloomfield (Disraeli BBG) are 1989 regional con- vention coordinators. Their duties include plann- ing the major events and ar- ranging committees for the five-day convention. The convention, which takes place at the end of December at the Jewish Com- munity Center's Maple/ Drake Building, is the largest BBYO event in Michigan with up to 500 youth par- ticipating in inter-chapter competitions, including song and cheer, T-shirt, oratory, quiz bowl, ping pong, basket- ball, volleyball, video, talent show and more.
