This piece of outdoor art, a ceramic mural set in two ce- ment walls, was erected in Flint's Riverbank Park on Labor Day, 1987, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this event. The exhibit contains Sellenraad's paintings and drawings depicting scenes from the strike, based on photographs from the Reuther Library's audiovisual collections and the artist's impressions gain- ed from conversations with the original strikers. The designs were then painted onto over 350 ceramic tiles, examples of which form part of the exhibit, and fired and glazed at Detroit's Pewabic Pottery. The artist's sister, potter and calligrapher Marieke Allen, lettered the prose text that underlines each panel. The exhibit, which runs through October, is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Fri- day.
