There will be a Russian delegation in Israel for the first time, and Romania sent a delegation to the Chicago Youth Maccabi last year. "Having the Russians come to Detroit would be a com- plete surprise," but Robinson is hopeful. "I have absolute- ly no idea of what it takes, ad- ministratively or diplomatically, to get them here, but I do hope to talk with them. That would be fantastic" if the Soviet Jews came. The Youth Maccabi will be in August, 1990, at the Maple-Drake Jewish Com- munity Center and other area sites. return to the Motor City next summer for the first time since the second Youth Mac- cabi brought 800 athletes here in 1984.' His aim will be to en- courage more European teams — including the Soviet Union — to come and compete in Detroit in 1990, when 2,200 Jewish athletes ages 13-16 are expected. Robinson will give a formal presentation on July 5 at K'far HaMaccabiah in Tel Aviv, headquarters of the Maccabiah Games, to delega- tion heads from all over the world, inviting them to Detroit. In addition, a five-foot-tall display, featuring photos of metro Detroit and Youth Mac- cabi competitions, plus infor- mation on the 1990 Maccabi in English, Hebrew and Spanish, will be displayed throughout the Games in the world headquarters lobby. "There'll be about 400-450 foreign delegates there," said Robinson, general chairman of the 1990 Maccabiah. "We'll be making a big push. "We've always had good representation from South and Central America, Israel and Australia, but we've never had much participation from European delegations. "We expect to make gains in that area — Germany, The Holocaust Memorial Center will conduct an inter- national seminar for educators from throughout the nation Sunday through July 10. The seminar includes four days of courses taught by recognized authorities on the Holocaust as well as tours of concentration camp sites such as Treblinka, Auschwitz and Majdanek. In addition to visiting con- centration camps in Poland, the participants will travel to Israel for additional studies. The seminar is being financed by a grant from the David and Miriam Mondry and Ira and Gail Mondry Family Foundation. Holocaust scholars will lec- ture on a variety of topics, among them: Defining the Perimeter of the Holocaust and its uniqueness; the Relevance of the Holocaust to the Contemporary World; The Roots of Anti-Semitism; Jewish Adaptation to the Nazi's Anti-Jewish Measures; American Response to the Holocaust and Teaching Strageties. Radomer Aid Has Installation The Radomer Aid Society will hold its annual installa- tion of officers at a luncheon on July 9 at the Furniture Club. The society's president is Oscar Tuttleman. Vice Presidents are Nancy Ager and Joseph Finkel.
