The 1989 Ben and Karlene
Salon Memorial Music
Scholarship of Mu Phi Ep-
silon, International Profes-
sional Music Fraternity, was
awarded to clarinetist,
Pamela Mayfield, who re-
ceived her Master of Music
degree in clarinet perfor-
mance from Michigan State
University.
The scholarship, given an-
nually to a flutist, clarinetist,
of pianist at Wayne State
University, Michigan State
University, or Oakland
University, was established in
1983 in memory of Karlene
Salon, a scholarship piano
student at the Royal Academy
of Music in London, England,
and her husband, Ben Salon,
a humanitarian and life-long
supporter of the arts.
Son-in-law Bernard Rosner
and Patrick Kelly were in-
stalled as patrons of the
fraternity.

The City of Oak Park
Department of Recreation an-
nounces Funfest '89 will take
place June 24-July 4.
Activities include: outdoor
concerts; fireworks; parade;
baseball and softball tour-
naments; tennis; golf; mini-
golf; municipal pool field day
and splash dance; ice cream
social; throw, hit and run con-
test; senior citizens softball
game; fashion show and more.
The 6th annual Interna-
tional Ethnic Festival slated
June 25 from noon to 6 p.m.
in Shepherd Park, consists of
a variety of food booths and
entertainment provided by
the different ethnic groups of
Oak Park.
July 3 will be the night of
the Oak Park fireworks
display. Prior to the fireworks,
The Loving Cup, featuring
Marlene Hill, will perform in
concert at 8 p.m. on the
library lawn.
Family Day is July 4. The
day includes the parade,
Kiwanis pancake breakfast
and food and game booths.
B'nai B'rith youth groups and
synagogue groups will spon-
sor booths.
There also will be a petting
farm, pony rides, moonwalk,
and other children's ac-
tivities. For the adults, the
Oak Park Chamber of
Commerce-sponsored "Art In
The Park" will be displayed.
Steve King and the Dittlies
will perform '60s music at
12:30 p.m. The Tailgate
Ramblers Dixieland Band
will perform at 2:30 p.m.
