statewide contestants in the
event.
Golden Mushroom, by the
way, recently did a little inter-
national chef swapping .. .
Reid Ashton hired a Cana-
dian chef and temporarily lost
his and Master Chef Milos
Cihelka's sous chef while he
externs at one of France's
foremost restaurants.
Luke Gagnon, hired to train
under Milos, comes to the
Golden Mushroom with an
impressive list of credentials
already under his belt . . . and
is recipient of numerous
medals in national culinary
competitions . . . He won a
gold medal with distinction at
the 1988 Culinary Olympics
in Frankfurt, West Germany
. . . As a professional ice
carver he is considered one of
Canada's finest.
Steve Allen will live in
France from July 1 through
Dec. 10 as he apprentices in
the kitchen of the acclaimed
Master Chef Michel Guerard
. . . Known as one of the top
chefs in France and the inven-
tor of Cuisine Minceur (slim
cuisine), Guerard runs the
kitchens at Eugenie les
Bains, an opulent chateau
estate with a health spa and
natural mineral water
springs . . . It is a prestigious
and exclusive resort con-
sidered a favorite retreat of
the rich and famous from
Europe and around the world.
Milos wrote letters to a
number of well-known French
chefs . . . and Steve was ac-
cepted by three different
restaurants . . . He chose the
externship at Eugenie les
Bains because of Guerard's
tremendous reputation . . .
and will return to the Golden
Mushroom in December.
