Scholarships

Several scholarship awards
will be given during June 10
services at Congregation
Beth Achim.
Sarah A. Resnick, recipient
of this year's Harry and
Sarah Laker Israel Youth
Scholarship, will be studying
at the Hebrew University
during the 1989-90 academic
year. She is entering her
junior year at the University
of Michigan, where she is a
member of B'nai Hillel
Foundation and a participant
in the Women's Glee Club.
Steven M. Gamer will
receive the Robert and Ger-

trude Berman Scholarship,
which he will use while ma-
joring in Judaic Studies with
an emphasis on modern
Jewish history at U-M.
Steven, who has been at U-M
since 1987, is chairman of the
University Hillel governing
board and chairman of the
United Jewish Appeal stu-
dent Campaign on the Ann
Arbor campus.
Susan Schlussel, who will
be awarded the Samuel and
Dora Kobaker Memorial
Youth Scholarship for a year
of study in Israel, will be stu-
dying at MABAT, a women's
yeshiva in Jerusalem that
emphasizes courses in
talmudic and rabbinic sub-
jects. She has completed her
freshman year at Stern Col-
lege, an affiliate of Yeshiva
University in New York.
The Tepman Youth Scholar-
ships will be awarded to
Nathaniel Berman, Andrew
Harris and Marjorie White.
The scholarship was
established in memory of
Louis lepman, father of Jerry
Tepman and Sally Lippitt, on
the 100th anniversary of his
birth. Applicants actively in-
volved in the Beth Achim
youth program are eligible for
the scholarship.

Philosophers
Theme Of Event

Members of the Birm-
ingham Temple High School
Philosophy Class, Beth
Cousens and Shari Kamienny
will present an "Evening
With the Philosophers" 8:30
p.m. today.
Philosophy will be the
theme of the service. The high
school graduates of 1989 will
be honored and participate in
the service.

Abraham Hillel Moses will
conclude its Life Cycle Shab-
batot series honoring the
significant life-cycle events of
its members, on Saturday.
The service will honor all
students who were or will be
b'nai mitzvah in 1989.
Gloria Ruskin is chairman
of the family programming
committee; Sylvia and
Isadore Bernstein are the life
cycle Shabbatot co-chairmen.
The synagogue also will
honor its youth during ser-
vices. The men's club and
sisterhood will present
scholarship awards to
students in grades through
high school who will have a
summer experience enhanc-
ing their Jewish identity. Col-
