URBANology
Exhibit Opens

"URBANology: Artists
View the Urban Experience,"
will take place Saturday
through June 30.
Ninety-eight artists from
the Midwest, California, New
York and Canada have been
selected to present works ad-
dressing various aspects of
the urban condition.
The participating exhibi-
tion spaces are: Detroit Ar-
tists Market, Detroit Focus
Gallery, Detroit Council of
the Arts Front Room Gallery,
The Michigan Gallery, Willis
Gallery, Center for Creative
Studies Sarkis Gallery,
Wayne State University Com-
munity Arts Gallery. The
Gallery at Marygrove College,
Engine Company # 4 (a new-
ly renovated 19th Century
fire station), Artcite in Wind-
sor and a concurrent exhibit
at the gallery of the Michigan
Council for the Arts.
The exhibition will be
documented in a 112-page
catalogue that will contain 43
color and 40 black-and-white
illustrations, essays and ex-
hibitors' data.
"URBANology" will begin
at all exhibition locations
with a day-long opening even-
ing on Saturday, from noon to
8 p.m.

issues, "URBANology: The Il-
lusion of Permanence," is
scheduled for Juine 15, 16,

Cultural Grants
Are Awarded

The Cultural Council of
Pontiac has just announced
that 12 Pontiac area arts and
cultural organizations have
been awarded 1989 grants
totalling $7,500.
Funding for the awards is
provided through the Coun-
cil's membership support pro-
gram and is made possible by
the General Motors Corp.
through its Pontiac public af-
fairs committee.
Grants were awarded to:
Pontiac Art Center; Puerto
Rican Festival, Inc.; YWCA;
Pontiac School District; Pon-
tiac Theatre IV; Cultural
Council of Pontiac; Tuesday
Musicale of Pontiac; Water-
ford Friends of the Arts;
Oakland Shores Sweet
Adelines; Oakland County
Pioneer and Historical Socie-
ty; Pontiac-Oakland Town
Hall; The Jackson Chorale.
