donated to the temple by the
late Max Katz's wife, children
and grandchildren.
Katz was founder and presi-
dent of Anchor Electric Corn-
pany for 35 years and a past
master of both the Oak Park
and Craftsman Lodge as well
as president of the Crescent
Shriners Club.
An Oneg Shabbat honoring
the temple's 15 high school
graduates, the Katz family
and Katz's daughter's family,
Malkin, will be held after
services.

Temple Holds
Ground Breaking

Temple Israel will hold a
ground-breaking ceremony
for its new school wing and
building rennovation 3 p.m.
Sunday. Honorary chairmen
for the event are Frances and
kenneth Eisenberg, Rose Her-
man and Sara and Irving
Pitt. The building committee
consists of June Kamil;
Robert Sosnick, chairperson;
and David Tisdale.
The program will begin on
the temple grounds with the
national anthems, led by
Cantor Harold Orbach, after
which Rabbi Harold Loss will
give the invocation and
greeting.
Rabbi M. Robert Syme will
speak and Rabbi Paul Yedwab
will give the Shehecheyanu.
After the program, the tern-

ple will host a picnic with
games, prizes and contests.
There will be hotdogs, drinks,
ice cream, pony rides, moon-
walks available; a magician
and clown will be on hand.
The event is open to the
public at no charge.

Beth El Shows
Holocaust Film

The Emmy Award-winning
film "Weapons of the Spirit"
by Pierre Sauvage will be
previewed 8 p.m. June 11 at
Temple Beth El. Sauvage will
be present to speak about the
making of the movie and
answer questions.
"Weapons of the Spirit"
tells the story of Le Chambon,
a small mountain community
in Nazi-occupied France,
where 5,000 Christians took
in and saved 5,000 Jews dur-
ing the Holocaust. Sauvage
was born and sheltered in Le
Chambon; his parents were
among the thousands saved.
Sauvage is president and
founder of Friends of Le
Chambon, an organization
committed to exploring and
communicating the lessons of
hope buried beneath the
despair of the Holocaust.
This event is being funded
by a grant from the Stein
Family Fund. The public is
invited. There is no charge.

Adat Shalom
Youth Shabbat

Adat Shalom Synagogue
will hold its annual Youth
Honoree Shabbat Saturday.
During morning services,
more than 50 young people
will be called to the bimah
and recognized for their par-
ticipation in Jewish summer
programming and other
achievements.
Students will be honored
who participated in Israel
programs, Camp Ramah and
Young Judaea, United
Hebrew Schools high school
and Hillel Day School, among
others.

Rabbi Wine
To Speak

Rabbi Sherwin Wine of the
Birmingham rIbmple will pre-
sent the first of two reviews
on the theme "Adventures in
Fiction" 8:30 p.m. Monday.
He will discuss Five Seasons,
by A.B. Yehoshua.
There is a charge.
Rabbi Wine will describe
the philosophy and programs
of the temple and Humanistic
Judaism at 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday.
